Dare to Live Your Dreams

This pilot initiative aims to provide comprehensive support for women seeking to transition out of sex work, addressing deep-rooted social inequalities through empowerment and skill development. The program welcomed nine women into a nurturing environment featuring guided sessions such as "My Identity and Worth" and "What's Holding Me Back." Participants identified new skills aligned with their personal dreams and aspirations. Our trained volunteers provided coaching, encouragement, and consulting support to accompany each woman on her year-long journey of self-discovery, helping her uncover her unique passions and purpose. A key lesson learned is that transformation happens when comprehensive support is provided, and the women are committed to investing in themselves. Psychosocial counselling, business management, and equipment & supplies are areas of support particularly needed. The pilot phase will be expanded to a larger group of young women in 2027 based on the lessons learned.

From Survival to Success: Marsha's Journey of Transformation

Through the "Dare to Live Your Dreams" project, women like Marsha are breaking cycles of vulnerability and becoming catalysts for community change. A Story of Resilience Marsha, a single mother of four and Project Officer at the Women of Dignity Alliance (WODA), operates a small beauty shop that has become a beacon of hope in her community. Her journey from survival to success exemplifies the transformative power of targeted support and unwavering determination. Overcoming the Odds Before joining "Dare to Live Your Dreams," Marsha relied on sex work to support her family while managing diabetes and other personal challenges. Despite working as a Project Officer, she struggled to grow her small beauty business beyond basic nail care and makeup services due to limited resources and business knowledge. "I want to own a shop and give opportunities to other young people to receive training in hairdressing, makeup, and nail care," Marsha shared, revealing her vision to impact others. The Turning Point New Dawne's initiative recognized Marsha's potential and provided targeted support, including funding for essential equipment—a hair dryer and sliding door—to enhance her shop's appeal and functionality. Building for Success Through training and mentorship, Marsha is developing crucial skills: strategic business planning, financial bookkeeping and tracking, customer engagement strategies, and transparent pricing systems. She needs ongoing accounting training to ensure long-term sustainability. A Ripple Effect of Change Marsha's growing success has enabled her to: Support her eldest daughter's nursing education Plan to train an apprentice to meet increasing demand Inspire other women in her community to explore entrepreneurship Create what she calls "a safe space for women in my neighborhood to feel valued and beautiful" Looking Ahead With plans for advanced hairstyling training, Marsha continues expanding her business while contributing to community development. Marsha's transformation demonstrates how structured support combined with personal determination creates lasting change that extends far beyond the individual, touching families, communities, and future generations.
